Building a Better Future for Our Residents
Introducing Lodge 2027: A New Era for Passamaquoddy Lodge
Join us in transforming our nursing home with the Lodge 2027 project, a major reconstruction initiative designed to enhance the quality of life for our residents.
New Lodge Project
We’re excited to announce the launch of our project, Lodge 2027, to build a replacement home for the Passamaquoddy Lodge in the age-friendly community of St. Andrews. Located on the Bar Road at Champlain, on land donated by the Town, the new lodge will replace the current home with innovative design and programming to provide the community, our residents, and our staff with the next generation of care: aging in community, aging in place, aging in care.
About Lodge 2027
Revolutionizing Senior Care at Passamaquoddy Lodge
The Lodge 2027 project represents a significant investment in the future of Passamaquoddy Lodge. This major reconstruction effort aims to modernize our facilities, providing a state-of-the-art environment that meets the evolving needs of our residents. With improved amenities, expanded services, and a focus on community integration, Lodge 2027 is set to redefine senior care in St. Andrews.
The Care Model
Our care model is based on the belief that everyone has the right to age with dignity, where residents and others enjoy excellent quality of life, quality care and strong engagement between residents and staff. Our new, pandemic-responsive facility will provide each resident with an individual room and bathroom, in homes of 12 residents, and offer programs and services for local residents who want to, and can, continue to live at home, as well as for informal caregivers.
Watch this CBC interview with Dr. John Dornan, Minister of Health, for more information on the importance of this initiative.
Lodge 2027 Project Timeline
Explore the key milestones in the Lodge 2027 reconstruction project, detailing our journey from planning to completion.
2017
Initial Idea
In an effort to ensure Passamaquoddy Lodge Inc. (PLI) better integrate aging in our community through “Aging in Place”, we supported the Age Friendly Community Initiative.
2018
Strategic Plan
The Lodge adopted a strategic goal of ensuring each resident lives in a private room with a private bath.
2019
Replace or Renovate
After a consultant, EXP, investigated possible renovation and expansion plans, the Department of Social Development (DSD) advised against renovation and recommended a new facility be built. A consultant on serving older adults, Silvermark, was hired to recommend a new servce model.
2020
New Care Model
We investigated a US care model called the Green House Project which focuses on smaller individual homes rather than an institutional (hospital-like) model that currently exists.
2021
Location Planning
The Board of Directors decided to proceed with planning a household facility and established the Development Committee. It sought support from ministers and officials in provincial departments of Social Services and Health. The town of St. Andrews approved a one year right of first refusal for land on the Bar Road.
2022
Design and Estimates
PLI received schematic designs and cost estimates from consultants Murdock and Boyd Architects and Iron Maple Constructors.
2024
Provincial Approval
The province in a letter has given support to the board to begin securing funds before formal per-diem negotiations begin.
