A Place for Your Loved Ones

Creating a community where every resident thrives, surrounded by care and compassion

The establishment of Passamaquoddy Lodge was made possible 51 years ago through the visionary efforts of the Kiwanis Club of Saint Andrews, alongside generous contributions from the Sir James Dunn Foundation, The Seaside Lodge of the Knights of Pythias, and numerous other benefactors. The land was acquired at a nominal cost, courtesy of Mr. & Mrs. Murray Vaughan.

On January 18, 1973, the inaugural Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors and Members convened at the Saint Andrews Town Hall. The cornerstone was ceremoniously laid by Captain Ranby Wren on July 27, 1973, marking the beginning of a new era in senior care for southwestern New Brunswick. The Lodge welcomed its first resident, the centenarian Miss Georgie Carson, on December 3, 1973. Since then, many hundreds of residents from across New Brunswick have called the Lodge home.

A Legacy of Care: The History of Passamaquoddy Lodge

Our Planned Facility

A New Quality of Elder Care

Lodge 2027 will bring innovation and a new quality of elder care to our province, establishing New Brunswick as a Canadian provincial leader in the way it cares for seniors. It will provide services through a community hub at the forefront of helping seniors stay in their homes for as long as possible.

The planned new Passamaquoddy Lodge is fashioned in a household style, with five separate homes each containing 12 single rooms. Our project brings with it both design and operational elements that focus on person-centered care.

The household model will replace the institutional setting often associated with long-term care with something much more inviting; a home-like environment.

Comprehensive Support Services

Our goal is to provide a diverse range of services such as personal support, as well as social and physical health services required by individuals who, because of long term functional limitations, need assistance to function as independently as possible. It will increase the hours of nursing care to standards in most other provinces.

Dedicated Volunteers

A team of dedicated volunteers has been working for more than seven years to get government approval on an acceptable per diem payment per resident to move the demonstration project forward. Negotiations with the government are ongoing although final approval has not been received for the demonstration project. The town has donated the land for the new lodge. And the volunteers have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for work done to date by professionals.

The goal is to raise $20 million through donations to help fund out breakthrough in seniors’ care.

Lodge Board of Directors

Donne Smith was elected the new President of the Lodge Board of Directors at the recent Annual General Meeting. He replaced Ann McIntosh who remains on the executive as past President, Jane Lauzier was elected Vice-President while Nancy Mandly stepped up in the dual role of Secretary/Treasurer. Other directors are Allan Fiander, Annette Hartland, Crosbie Cotton, Claude Vienneau, Hans Obermeier, Roger McNabb, Brenda Hoeksema, Janet Cranford and Kirk MacKenzie.
